A man has been evacuated by emergency helicopter after a head-on crash on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai today.

The incident, which involved a semi-trailer and a van, blocked the highway for several hours.

Police and SES diverted traffic around the scene.

The crash occurred just after 11:00am about 2km north of Wondai, between the intersections of Wondai-Proston Road and Lysdale Road.

The driver of the van, who had to be cut from the vehicle, was airlifted by the RACQ CareFlight helicopter back to the Sunshine Coast Airport from where he was taken by road ambulance to Nambour Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this stage.

A woman in the vehicle was taken by ambulance to Kingaroy Hospital with minor injuries.

The male driver of the truck is not believed to have been hurt.
