The South Burnett Pantry received a surprise donation of $355 last Friday from the South Burnett Chorale.

The money was raised from a raffle the Chorale conducted over the October long weekend at the ANCA Big Sing, a special South Burnett & Cherbourg On Show event which saw more than 200 choral singers gather at Kingaroy Town Hall for three days of workshops capped off by a massed choral concert.

Prizes for the Big Sing raffle were donated by Pottique, Andersson’s Fruit Market and Kingaroy Shoppingworld.

The raffle’s top prize – a two-night stay at historic Taabinga Homestead – was donated by Chorale patrons Colin Marshall and Libby Leu.

The South Burnett Chorale is a mixed choir open to everyone, and it meets every Tuesday night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Church of Christ Hall at the corner of Haly and Burnett streets in Kingaroy.

The Chorale performs regular concerts at various venues, including a series of annual Christmas concerts and two to three concerts each year at Taabinga Homestead.

The Chorale’s repertoire includes popular, classic and sacred styles, and profits from all the group’s concerts are donated to local charities.

The Chorale held the first of its 2014 Christmas Concerts in Nanango and Kingaroy on Sunday.

The final two concerts in this year’s series will be held on Sunday, December 7 at the Castra Retirement Home at Cooper Street in Murgon from 2:00pm to 3:30pm; and then at the Wondai Lutheran Church at 39 Edward Street, Wondai from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
