South Burnett SES members have been quick to volunteer to help in the clean-up following Thursday night’s “supercell” storm which trashed parts of Brisbane.
“We assembled two strike teams from Kingaroy (five volunteers and three vehicles), one team from Nanango (three volunteers and vehicle), one team from Blackbutt (five volunteers and vehicle),” Kingaroy SES Group Leader Peter Verbakel said.
Teams were also despatched from other areas including Goomeri.
“It appears the North Coast Region (of which we are part) has sent almost 90 volunteers and 27 vehicles to assist the Brisbane groups in providing a concerted weekend assault on the damage,” Peter said.
The teams left on Friday morning, travelling in convoy to Brisbane and are expected to return late on Sunday night.
“This deployment differs from the usual five-day deployments to emergency areas due to the aim of an all-out weekend assault in Brisbane,” Peter said.
