Ten fire crews are on the scene of a grass fire burning near Stretton Drive in Teelah, north of Blackbutt.
The fire started about 11:00am and at noon firefighters were attempting to contain it.
A QFES spokesman said there is a large smoke hazard affecting the area.
Residents have been advised to close windows and doors and keep medications for respiratory conditions close by. Motorists are urged to drive to conditions and to keep an eye out for firefighters and emergency services volunteers.
