A long-time resident of Blackbutt and district, Mr Brian Bidgood, kept his audience captivated with stories of his life experiences in Blackbutt at a recent history morning organised by Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association.

An audience of 25 people from the local area gathered at Nukku Nook and enjoyed an interactive discussion with Brian which was further added to by other senior citizens who were in attendance.

Blackbutt and District Tourism and Heritage Association members were asked to bring along an historic item from their homes, which culminated in a very interesting display of memorabilia.

A family album containing birth, marriage and death certificates including Simon Scott, who established Taromeo Station in 1842 was presented by Mrs Jenny Thomas, a descendant of this pioneering family.

Other interesting artefacts included an antique nail puller, blacksmith made items, a 1919 cash journal from Almonds at Benarkin, an antique golf stick, a stamp collection, old family photos, a box full of antique items discovered with a metal detector in the local area and an old telephone handset.

An open invitation is extended to everyone, regardless of where you live, to come along and interact at the next history session which will be held at Nukku Nook, a centre for historical and environmental education, on Friday, February 13, from 9:30am.

Nukku Nook stands proudly on the old Blackbutt Railway Station grounds.
