After four attempts, Gold Coast speedway driver Nick Girdlestone has finally won the memorial race named after his late daughter Zoe.
The Zoe Girdlestone Memorial for Late Models was the highlight of a night of racing at the Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway on Saturday.
However, despite gate prices being slashed, only a small crowd turned out to watch the last meeting for 2014 and catch some great speedway action.
It was the second time the Zoe Girdlestone Memorial has been held in Kingaroy.
The race is organised as a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish organisation and Nick confirmed afterwards that the winner’s cheque would be heading off to the charity.
Round 3 of the Tyrepower Super 600 Series for Formula 500s was also raced on the night.
Reigning Queensland champion Dale Shilleto, from Maryborough, sealed his third straight win in the series, however it was former Queensland champion Nathan Pronger who set a new lap record of 13.803 seconds.
Speedway racing will return to Kingaroy on January 2-3 with the first ever national title to be held in the town, the 2015 Late Model National Championship.
