Firefighters tackled a blaze burning behind houses in Malar Crescent at Booie this morning

Rural and urban fire crews and members of the Strike Team attended a fire burning at the rear of homes in Malar Crescent at Booie this morning.

It is the second fire in Malar Crescent in recent days.

The fire broke out about 11:00am.

Fire crews had to use bolt-cutters on a locked gate to gain entry to one property to fight the fire.

Multiple fire-fighting crews also attended a large grass ‎fire this afternoon burning in the vicinity of the Burnett Highway and Booinbah Road at Boonara.

A QFES spokesman said the fire broke out at 12:15pm but was posing no threat to property.

At 12:45pm, about 4ha was involved in fire and crews were working to contain the blaze.

At midnight last night, the North Coast region, which includes the South Burnett, was upgraded to Wildfire Alert Level 3 (WAL3) to recognise the higher fire risk in the area.

New fire permits will not be issued and permit holders may be contacted by wardens to cancel existing permits.
