Nick Girdlestone will be back this year racing in the Zoe Girdlestone Memorial Race

November 11, 2014

The South Burnett Speedway Club has slashed its entry prices for Saturday night’s Kingaroy speedway meeting.

Entry is just $15 for adults and $10 for students and aged or disability pensioners. Children aged 12 and under are free.

It will be a special night at the speedway for other reasons, too …

The fourth annual Zoe Girdlestone Memorial race for Dirt Late Models will be run as a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish organisation.

This is the second time the race has been held at the Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway.

Taking part on Saturday night will be Steve van Zeeland, Kirstin van Zeeland, Michael Jenner, Blair Granger, Matt Ingrey, Ian Ducet, Greg Town and Frank Armstrong plus local heroes Ashley and Travis Barron.

Also racing will be Gold Coast driver Nick Girdlestone.

Nick has a special connection to the Make-A-Wish charity which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

His daughter Zoe wanted to visit Paris to see the grave of legendary Doors frontman Jim Morrison, something Make-A-Wish made come true.

After that she became an ambassador for the charity until her death from cystic fibrosis at age 19 in 2009.

Her family decided to initiate a special memorial speedway race in her honour to continue raising funds for Make-A-Wish.

Other races on Saturday night will be for Modified Sedans, Production Sedans and 4 Cylinders.

Round 3 of the Tyrepower Super 600 Series for Formula 500s will also be raced.

Racing will get underway from 4:30pm and will be finished by 10:00pm.

As an added bonus for spectators, at interval the pit area will be opened up for free to the public to mingle with the drivers and check out the cars.
