The South Burnett now has an all-girls junior cricket team playing in the local competition.

The Murgon Flames made their debut against a mixed u14s side from Kingaroy on Saturday, and came out victorious.

Coach Leanne Sippel believes this is the first time an all-girls team has been fielded in the South Burnett competition.

“We had 15 children and then another two signed up, so we decided we had enough players for two teams,” Leanne said.

“We put the eight girls into one team.”

The Flames played a seven-a-side match against the Kingaroy Wildcats at Murgon.

The Flames started slowly, but managed to hold the Wildcats to 127 after some great bowling by Katherine Rose who took 3/11 off three overs.

In reply, the Flames passed Wildcats’ score with plenty of overs to spare to finish 5/134.

Leanne said Renee Irvine (69 ret.) and Courtney Sippel (31 ret.) were destructive with the bat and running between wickets.

Irvine and Sippel have both been selected in the Queensland U15 cricket team.
