After a year off the paddock, the South Burnett Thrashers rugby union team is keen to get back into action in 2015.
Club president Jamie Shirlaw told southburnett.com.au today he had only just started approaching potential players but had received about six expressions of interest in just 24 hours.
“The Darling Downs rugby union competition have said they would be happy to have us back in the competition,” Jamie said.
However, they will need to know for sure before the end of this year.
At this stage, it is unsure whether the Thrashers would play in the C Grade or the B Grade competition.
The Thrashers withdrew from the 2014 competition in March this year after the club could not sign up enough players to field a team.
At the time, the return of the Kingaroy Red Ants into the rugby league competition, the retirement of a couple of players and others moving out of the area were blamed for the drop in numbers.
The decision followed the Thrashers’ most successful season in the B Grade competition in 2013, finishing sixth on the ladder after at one stage threatening to make it into the semi-finals.
Players interested in joining the Thrashers can contact the team through Facebook or by phoning 0421-765-414.
