Five fire crews were called to a house fire in Taylor Street West, Murgon, about 5:20pm this evening.

The fire, in a highset Queenslander, had engulfed the house by the time fire crews arrived.

At 6:00pm, firefighters were protecting a number of nearby structures and still working to control the fire.

A large smoke haze was affecting the area and the QFES advised residents to close windows and doors and keep medication on hand if suffering from a respiratory illness.

Motorists were asked to drive to conditions and be mindful of emergency services personnel working in the area.

A QFES spokesman said six people lived in the house, but all were accounted for.

Fire and Serious Crime Squad investigators were also at the scene.

No further details are known at this stage.
