A strike force of rural firefighters from the Sunshine Coast shifted into Kingaroy yesterday to be on hand to assist during any fire emergencies during the current heatwave.

Four fire trucks and about a dozen firefighters are ready to help local crews.

Two water bombers are also ready to assist from Kingaroy Airport.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Fire Danger Rating for the Wide Bay Burnett is currently very high, with severe conditions in adjoining areas of the Darling Downs.

However, conditions are expected to intensify tomorrow, becoming extreme in the Darling Downs (see map, below) with high temperatures, low humidity and strong wind gusts forecast.

The Rural Fire Service Queensland has advised that any fires that start could be unpredictable, uncontrollable and fast-moving.

The strike team is expected to remain in the region until Tuesday.
