South Burnett senior cricketers were in action at Hervey Bay on Sunday for the first of their annual Goodchild Shield competition matches.

Fraser Coast batted first and put on 324 runs from their 50 overs with the loss of just six wickets.

Paul Sanders led the way with 124. Tony Andrews (82) and Sam Chew (37) also added to the target that South Burnett faced.

Tavis Hartwig (3/70 from 10 overs) was the best of the South Burnett bowlers.

In reply, South Burnett weren’t disgraced, putting on 244 runs.

Lehman Brunjes (51), Ashley Sippel (45), Peter Hourn (29) and Wayne Kelly (25) led the way with the bat.

Dan Ovington did the damage for Fraser Coast, taking 3/21 from eight overs.

Fraser Coast won by 80 runs.

Will Roth fends away successfully for South Burnett in the U13s match against Bundaberg

In Murgon, South Burnett junior cricketers took on Bundaberg in rep games at Murgon Sportsground and Murgon State High School on Sunday.

Final scores were:

  • U12s: Bundaberg 242 (50 overs) beat South Burnett all out for 185 (34 overs)
  • U13s: Bundaberg all out 167 (42 overs) beat South Burnett all out 163 (28 overs)
  • U14s: South Burnett 8/194 (50 overs) defeated Bundaberg all out 166 (40 overs)
  • U16s: South Burnett all out for 202 (46 overs) were beaten by Bundaberg 4/208 (43 overs)
