Queensland jockey Carly-Mae Pye, 26, a familiar face on country race tracks, has been badly injured in a fall today.

The Rockhampton-based jockey is believed to have suffered a severe head injury after she was thrown when her mount apparently broke a leg during a barrier trial this morning at Callaghan Park, Rockhampton.

She was transported to hospital in a critical condition.

Pye mainly races in Central Queensland but has taken rides at South Burnett meetings.

Two years ago Pye was lucky to escape serious injury at Thangool when she was trampled by Single Toast after it broke a shoulder.
