The Queensland Gliding Championships will be taking off at Kingaroy Airport on Saturday.
Kingaroy Soaring Club president Greg Schmidt said the competition would run until next Friday.
Entries are down this year, with only about 15 competitors so far registered to take part.
Most of these will be members of the Kingaroy club, although a few visitors are also expected.
Greg said the Queensland competition was being held only shortly before the National Championships, which will be flown in Goondiwindi next week, which probably accounted for the drop in numbers.
