South Burnett And Cherbourg On ShowSeptember 17, 2014

The Wondai Regional Art Gallery is anticipating wall-to-wall crowds on Friday, October 3.

The Gallery expect a bumper roll-up for two reasons: the unveiling of the South Burnett’s biggest annual art competition, and the official launch of this year’s South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend by South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann.

The Mayor will be kicking off the long weekend by officially opening the 20th annual South Burnett Art Competition, and presenting prizes to the winners.

This competition is open to South Burnett artists only, and provides a vibrant showcase of the best artworks the region can produce.

This year it’s offering a total of $4800 in cash prizes for winning entries in its Art, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramics sections, including a $1500 Mayor’s Acquisitive Prize.

This prize is awarded to a work from any of the four sections which will later be added to the South Burnett Regional Council’s permanent collection.

The competition also has a section for children’s art to encourage the region’s next generation of artists.

The Gallery’s doors will open at 5:30pm, and the $5 entry fee includes a hot and cold supper; wine tastings and live entertainment.

The opening night will conclude at around 7:00pm so that guests attending the Sample The South Burnett launch dinner at the nearby Wondai Hotel and Cellar can move there.

After opening night, the exhibition will remain on show at the Gallery each day from 10:00am to 4:00pm until the end of October.

Admission to view it is free.

The Wondai Regional Art Gallery is located on the main roundabout at Wondai and can be contacted on (07) 4168-5926 or by email.
