Representatives from community groups from all over the former Nanango Shire gathered at Ringsfield House on Saturday afternoon … and went home a whole lot happier (and richer).
This year Heritage Nanango Community Funding Ltd, a joint venture run in conjunction with the Heritage Bank, distributed $370,000 in grants, donations and sponsorship to groups in the town.
Some of the biggest smiles came from the representatives from the Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic parish.
Parish priest Fr Nigel Sequeira was presented with a cheque for $42,339 to allow sealing and painting of the exterior of the iconic church on the corner of Alfred and Gipps streets.
Fr Nigel made the announcement to the congregation during a Mass at the Church on August 15.
The parish has been busy raising funds for a restoration of the building ahead of its centenary in 2017.
The second highest amount distributed on Saturday went to the South Burnett Western Performance Club Inc who will use their cheque for $35,580.46 to build a toilet and shower (with wheelchair access) facility for the use of riders and competitors.
