A fatal road crash in South Australia will cause disruptions to garbage removal services in Goomeri, Kilkivan and other parts of the Gympie Regional Council area over the next few days.
Transpacific, the operators of the Cleanaway service, has grounded 2800 trucks nationwide after a crash in Adelaide on Monday which killed a 41-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man and left two people in hospital in a critical condition.
The garbage truck hit three stationary cars at a major intersection.
Transpacific is Australia’s biggest waste management company.
Earlier this year, Cleanaway re-won a seven-year contract to manage Gympie’s waste and recycling services.
The contract covers the waste and recycling kerbside collection of 22,000 householders and commercial businesses in the Gympie Regional Council area.
The new contract began on July 1 and included collecting waste and recyclables from properties in Kilkivan and Goomeri.
A Gympie Council spokesman said residents should leave their bins out and they would be serviced “as soon as possible”.
