The South Burnett has once again put on an impressive display at the 2014 Royal Queensland Show.

While the South Burnett Regional Council was touting the economic benefits of the region – and enticing tourists to visit – at their Ekka stand, South Burnett residents were busy putting on a blue ribbon performance out in the ring:

In the Prime Beef competition, the Champion Single Steer was exhibited by Jason and Megan Livingstone, of Maidenwell.

The Livingstones also won ribbons for:

  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 18mths & under 20mths – “Ballycasheen Helter Skelter” – 2nd
  • Steer – 601kg to 720kg – 1st
  • Woolworths Premier Carcase CompetitionLed Steers – 431kg-460kg – 3rd

Michael Taylor, from MK Cattle at Moondooner, exhibited the Senior Champion Limousin Bull and Grand Champion Limousin Bull, “MK Cattle Hangover”.

MK Cattle also won ribbons for:

  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 20 months and under 22 months – “MK Cattle How’s That” – 3rd
  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 22 months and under 24 months – “MK Cattle Hangover” – 1st
  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Heifer – 8 months and under 12 months – “MK Cattle Jodie” – 3rd
  • Led Steer Carcase – 401kg -430kg – 3rd

Junior Champion Limousin bull …  “Jen-Daview Jayboy”

Junior Champion Limousin bull was awarded to “Jen-Daview Jayboy”, exhibited by the Evans family’s Jen-Daview Limousin stud.

Jen-Daview also took out ribbons for:

  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 8 months and under 12 months – “Jen-Daview Polled Jactor” – 3rd
  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 16 months and under 18 months – “Jen-Daview Jayboy” – 1st
  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Bull – 27 months and under 30 months – “Jen-Daview Hercules” – 1st
  • Led Steer Carcase – 491-540kg – 2nd

Corey Evans also won the prestigious Prime Beef Young Judges and Stud Beef Young Paraders competitions.

“Jen-Daview Hercules”, pictured with Corey Evans from Jen-Daview Limousins, took out the ribbon for Bull  – 27 Months and Under 30 Months at the Ekka … at the Nanango Show earlier this year he was sashed by Rural Ambassador Sheena Uebergang as Grand European Champion Bull

The Sowden family, from Kingaroy, also had success at multiple levels.

“Oakwood Fiddlez”, from  C & L Sowden’s Five Star Limousin stud, was named Reserve Senior Champion Limousin Cow or Heifer.

Five Star Limousin also won ribbons for:

  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Heifer – 16 months and under 18 months – “Oakwood Hot Sauce” – 2nd
  • Stud Beef Cattle – Limousin – Heifer – 22 months and under 24 months – “Oakwood Fiddlez” – 1st
  • Woolworths Premier Carcase CompetitionLed Steers – 401kg-430kg – 3rd

Carmen Sowden won the McDonald’s School Parader competition (12 years and under 14 years) representing St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy.

She also took out first spot in the Westpac Agribusiness Young Judges competition for Stud Beef Cattle (Junior Classes) with her sister Lannah, coming second.

Midge Thompson, from Nanango, came home with the Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Steers or Heifers. 

His pen also took out top spot in the Pen of 3 Steers or Heifers – 421kg to 480kg class.

In the equestrian ring, Jessica Boehm’s  “Rosebank Dundee’,  from Wondai, below, won Led Partbred Friesian Horse, Ridden Partbred Friesian Horse and Best Partbred Friesian Exhibit of the Show:
