Gympie Deputy Mayor Tony Perrett

August 10, 2014

Gympie Deputy Mayor Tony Perrett has been endorsed as the LNP candidate for the State seat of Gympie.

The decision was made at an LNP meeting in Gympie on Saturday.

Current LNP MP David Gibson announced earlier this year that he would not be re-contesting the seat.

Mr Perrett is a local grazier and former Kilkivan Shire councillor.

He is also a former State President of the Queensland Young Nationals and currently represents Division 6 in the Gympie Regional Council.

Changes to legislation mean Cr Perrett does not have to resign from Gympie Council just because he has nominated as a candidate in the State poll; he would cease to be a councillor only if successfully elected.

  1. Shows how confident he is, he is keeping his current job as a fallback, as they say “Don’t give up your day job”

    • Congratulations to Tony Perrett on being the nominated LNP candidate for the State seat of Gympie at the next election. I have known Cr Perrett for a number of years, moreso before the amalgation of councils in the South Burnett. I always felt that the former Kilkivan shire mayor Ron Dyne and his deputy in Cr Perrett would both reach greater heights in the Local Government arena and that already has occurred in the Gympie council. I am so sorry to hear about Cr Dyne’s health but he will fight on.

    • I think it’s more about ensuring there doesn’t have to be a by-election if he doesn’t get across the line. If you look at the history of the seat in recent years no one would take it for granted.
