The anniversary of the death of former Yarraman police officer Snr Sgt Perry Irwin will be marked in Yarraman later this month.

Snr Sgt Irwin was ambushed and shot dead by a criminal during a police search of bushland near Caboolture in 2003.

A ceremony will be held at his graveside in Yarraman Cemetery from 5:30pm on August 22.

All members of the community are invited to attend, especially Yarraman residents.

A social gathering will then follow at the Yarraman Bowls Club.

The sesquicentenary of policing in Queensland will be commemorated at the annual National Police Remembrance Day service which will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Gipps Street, Nanango, on September 29.

Police Remembrance Day commemorates the sacrifice of the 140 police officers who have lost their lives in Queensland in the line of duty since 1861.

Senior Sergeant Lance Guteridge, who is helping to organise the service, said Nanango had been chosen this year for the South Burnett commemoration as it was one of the earliest towns in Queensland and had the longest, continuous police presence.

The service will get underway at 4:00pm and will be open to members of the public.
