Police are investigating a burglary that occurred at Bells Bridge, east of Kilkivan, on August 2.

Initial investigations suggest that around 1:30am, unknown people entered a residence on Ellis Road.

They then allegedly assaulted two occupants, a man and woman, in the house.

Police will allege that one of the offenders was armed with a metal bar and struck the man over the head several times. The woman was also injured while attempting to intervene.

The intruders then stole a vehicle, a blue 2013 Ford XR6 Falcon sedan with Queensland registration 842-TFI and fled the scene.

Police later located the vehicle about 5:50am destroyed by fire on Cedar Pocket Road at Cedar Pocket.

The 28-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and was transported to Gympie Hospital for treatment.

A 28-year-old woman suffered cuts and bruises to her forearm and received further medical treatment at the Gympie Hospital.

Police investigations are continuing.
