The South Burnett Community Orchestra and the Red Earth Community Foundation South Burnett Limited have both secured grants in the latest round of funding by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).

The FRRR’s Small Grants for Rural Communities program distributed 149 grants to small rural, regional or remote communities in Round 25 of the program.

More than 600 groups applied for assistance under the scheme, which is made possible by several generous donors.

The Red Earth Community Foundation received $3000 to increase professionalism on community boards by organising a governance forum.

The South Burnett Community Orchestra received $2000 to hold musical tuition workshops.

FRRR CEO Alexandra Gartmann said the high level of interest in the funding program confirmed that philanthropic funds were as important as ever in helping to maintain the health and vibrancy of small rural, regional and remote communities.

“The number of groups seeking funds via this grant program remains high, with 78 per cent of requests for funding coming from communities with fewer than 5000 people,” she said.
