The Wondai and District Town Band has invited one of Australia’s leading brass quartets, Letterbox Brass, to the South Burnett to conduct a workshop and master classes.

Letterbox Brass is led by Ashley Gittens, a champion trombone and euphonium player.

He is well-known to South Burnett musicians as a past adjudicator at the Kingaroy Eisteddfod.

The other members are Tony Lashmar and Lindon Weise (trumpet) and John Guiton (French horn).

All are current members of the Australian A Grade champion band, Brisbane Excelsior.

The workshop will be held from 10:00am on August 9 at Terry Jacobsen’s at 1 Short Street, Wondai.

A concert to showcase the band and quartet will be held at the Wondai Diggers’ Club the following afternoon (Sunday, August 10) from 1:30pm ($8 entrance fee).

The workshop is open to all brass players, from beginners to advanced.

A new piece has been commissioned for the occasion for young players.

The workshop is free to all participants and has been supported by the South Burnett Regional Council and the State Government through the Regional Arts Development Fund.

To register for the workshop, phone Terry Jacobsen on (07) 4169-0163.
