Kumbia State School will be hosting a visit by some Queensland rugby league royalty next week when the three Walters brothers drop in.

Kerrod, twin brother Kevin and older brother Steve will be at the school from 4:00pm on Friday (July 18) for a free training session for local youngsters.

The session will be followed by a $20 barbecue dinner at the Kumbia Hotel where the former players will swap yarns with local residents.

The dinner will get underway at 6:00pm and bookings for this event would be preferred by the organisers – phone the pub on (07) 4164-4111.

Kerrod was part of the Broncos’ famous “Ipswich connection” which included brother Kevin and Allan Langer. The former Jets players dominated on the paddock during the early years of the Brisbane team.

He played Origin and represented Australia from 1989-92.

Brother Kevin was the Broncos’ captain for many years and also played for the Maroons and Australia.

Steve spent most of his career with the Canberra Raiders – and was pivotal in their premiership winning teams. He also played for Queensland and Australia and is considered to be one of the best hookers the State has produced.

In 2007, he was named as one of Australian rugby league’s 100 greatest players of all time.
