South Burnett farmers have been reminded a number changes to drought assistance measures began on July 1, including the official start of the Federal Government’s new Farm Household Allowance.

The Queensland Farmers’ Federation says the new allowance provides support for farmers whether or not the hardship is the result of drought.

It contains more flexible eligibility criteria and will be available to recipients for up to three years.

Recipients will be automatically issued with a Health Care Card, have access to a range of other allowances and entitlements, and can access up to $3000 to pay for professional support, advice or training.

The QFF says farmers who are currently receiving the Interim Farm Household Allowance and still require income support should submit a claim for Farm Household Allowance by July 14 to avoid a break in payments.
