The Heritage Lodge community housing project in Nanango has received a massive injection with the announcement this morning that South Burnett CTC has secured an extra $488,000 in funding.
The money has come from the Elderly Parent Carer Innovation Trial, a three-year $15 million program run by the State Government to provide capital funding to address the unmet needs of elderly parent carers and their adult children.
South Burnett CTC CEO Nina Temperton said the new funding – together with the funds CTC and the Heritage Community Bank in Nanango have committed to the project – should enable construction of three of the six planned duplexes.
Heritage Lodge will be built in stages on the corner of Gipps and Dalby streets, Nanango.
The land was officially handed over to South Burnett CTC last week as a donation by the State Government.
The Heritage Community Bank in Nanango is an official partner in the specialised community housing project and has donated a total of $330,000 so far to make it a reality.
The South Burnett Regional Council has also budgeted to support the project by providing road access, water and sewerage infrastructure.
“Many people have been very supportive of our efforts, including the Probus Clubs of Kingaroy and Nanango, various service clubs and the various disability services,” Mrs Temperton said.
She praised the assistance of Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.
“Without Deb Frecklington’s help we would not be in this position today. While I have always been confident that our submission was what the EPCI Trial is all about, the vexed land issue was the major stumbling block and her intervention was necessary to finally overcome this,” Mrs Temperton said.
She said Heritage Lodge would make a real difference in people’s lives.
Mrs Frecklington said she the funding announcement was “the icing on the cake” and was terrific news for the Nanango community.
