Wondai is gearing up for its big Reserve Forces Day weekend with a number of events planned for July 5-6.

Reserve Forces Day commemorates the two million Australian men and women who have served in the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserves since 1948, as well as the many thousands who have served in the CMF and other volunteer formations over the years.

On Saturday, July 5, social bowls will be played at the Wondai club from 1:00pm with a barbecue lunch at noon.

A meet’n’greet for reservists and former reservists will be held at the Hotel Cecil from 5:30pm.

On Sunday, July 6, commemorations will begin at 10:00am with a wreathlaying and flag-raising ceremony to be held at the Cenotaph in front of the former Council Chambers.

Marchers will start assembling for the parade at 10:15am in the Post Office Paddock. A coffee stall will be run by the QCWA and supported by the Endeavour Foundation.

The parade will start at 11:00am and proceed via Pring, Bramston and Mackenzie streets to Coronation Park.

The reviewing officer will be the Aide-de-camp to the Governor, Flt Lt Rob Moran ADC RAAF who will be supported by the 2IC HQ Sth Qld RAN Lt Cmdr Mark Tandy CSC RAN.

A recognition service will then be held in the park with a short address by Mr Barry Collins from the Naval Association of Queensland.

A “Beating Retreat” ceremony to mark the end of Reserve Forces Day will then be held on the roadway in front of the Cenotaph.
