Local peanut growers Wayne Weller and Graham Black … one of the worst peanut seasons on record

June 25, 2014

The latest round of drought information meetings held in the South Burnett to assist local farmers wound up this week.

Meetings were held at Ironpot, Maidenwell, Mondure, Durong, Murgon, Booubyjan and Kingaroy.

The Kingaroy meeting, held at BGA AgriServices on Monday night, attracted about 35 primary producers.

They listened intently as speakers explained various freight subsidies that were available, as well as the support they could access to fill out all the necessary paperwork.

Representatives from Centrelink, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; QRAA, AgForce, Centacare, the Salvation Army and BIEDO were also on hand to speak one-on-one to individual farmers.

The crowd then enjoyed a barbecue cooked by BGA staff.
