Ronald Peter “Curly” Chalmers and his wife Esme … “Curly” turned 90 today

Long-time Kingaroy resident and World War II veteran Ronald Peter “Curly” Chalmers was treated to a special lunch at the Kingaroy RSL Club today to mark his 90th birthday.

The lunch was organised by RSL Sub-Branch President Don Davey and RAAF veteran Barry Krosch.

Also invited were other local veterans who have also passed the 90-year milestone.

Joining Curly and his wife Esme in the Anzac Room at the club were World War II veterans Doug Farmer (RAAF) and his wife Thelma, and Fred Dahms (Corps HQ).

Curly, who was born in Maryborough, served in the AIF in World War II in the 2/4 Armoured Battalion in New Guinea, Bougainville and Rabaul.

When he was still young his family moved to Mt Perry and then on to to Kingaroy in 1933, where he attended Kingaroy State School.

He and wife Esme will be celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary on December 2.
