Growing the Burnett, Kingaroy Landcare, South Burnett Grazing network and the Burnett Mary Regional Group are joining forces to present a film night for farmers this Sunday.
The evening will screen four short films which document a farm study tour taken by 17 Australian farmers to Mexico, Costa Rica and Ecuador in September 2013.
“These films showcase how Latin American farmers are using low-cost methods to improve their soil health and increase production on their farms,” Kym Kruse, from RegenAg in North Queensland who organised the tour, said.
The films and discussion on the night will demonstrate how Latin farmers are beating the odds against rising input costs, water charges and declining soil health.
Damien O’Sullivan, from DAFF, said the films would be an opportunity to learn their methods; understand the why, what and how of what they do; and see the results of their efforts.
“It will be an opportunity for anyone interested in growing food on a commercial scale or for their own use to see how the staples of life can be grown using sustainable methods,” he said.
The films will be shown from 6:00pm to 8:30pm on Sunday, June 29, at the DAFF Conference Room at the Bjelke-Petersen Research Station, opposite Kingaroy Airport. A light evening meal will also be served.
Cost is a gold coin donation.
