South Burnett easily cut through the South Toowoomba defence

June 23, 2014

Despite a two-week break from footy, the South Burnett Saints notched up their fifth consecutive win in the Darling Downs Division 2 competition on Saturday, overwhelming South Toowoomba in Kingaroy.

The Saints finished ahead 16.8 (104) to 10.10 (70), and led at every quarter break.

South Burnett got off to a strong start, kicking five goals in the first quarter – a feat they repeated in the second and last quarters.

In comparison, the Bombers went into the first change with just eight points, from one goal and two behinds.

At half-time, the Saints were ahead by more than seven goals and although South Toowoomba managed to claw their way back into the game in the second half – kicking five goals of their own in the third quarter and getting to within nine points – it wasn’t enough to frighten the Saints who quickly rallied.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Brad Edwards (3), Paul Pressnell (3), Ty Snow (3), Daniel Rogers (3), Adam Branch (2), Adam Bowater and Darren Moseling.

South Burnett has another home again this weekend, against Highfields on Saturday.

Highfields will be coming off a big win against Warwick and will be looking to put together third consecutive victory.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 2:30pm.
