The South Burnett Regional Council will again be entering a team in this year’s Relay for Life Cancer fundraiser.
“The South Burnett has a history as a strong fundraising community when it comes to the Relay for Life,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.
“The South Burnett Relay organising committee do an amazing job at bringing this event together.
“It is hard to find a person in the region who hasn’t been touched by cancer, and the Council team is an awesome group of committed individuals who really get behind this event.”
The Mayor said the team kicked off their fundraising efforts with all the proceeds from last month’s Mayor’s Community Charity Breakfast in Wondai, which launched this year’s Relay For Life effort.
The breakfast raised more than $1000 from door takings and raffles.
“Council’s corridors will be a hive of fundraising activities for the next four months,” the Mayor said.
“The Relay for Life initiative is an opportunity to get together with the community to celebrate medical advances made to date, remember and fight back against cancer.”
The South Burnett Relay will be held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds on October 11-12.
Last year’s Relay raised a South Burnett record of $116,000 for cancer research.
