South Burnett players will be heading to Toowoomba at the weekend to take part in the inaugural Football South West Queensland Zone Championships.

Football South Burnett has selected Men’s and Women’s teams to compete, however a boycott by Nanango players – and Long Weekend commitments by others – restricted the pool of players available for consideration.

Even so, both teams should be very competitive with the personnel selected.

The Men’s Squad is: Ryan Nicholson, Ash Burns, Thomas Carroll (captain), Darren Moseling, Hayden Francis, Jayden Mollenhauer, Sheldon Livingston, Hayden Mashford, Chris O’Loughlin, Ike Sililat, James Dundas, Brandon Walsh, Hayden Steen, Brendon Smith, Richard Boles (manager/player), Mauro Buzzo (coach/player), Debbie Ovens (coach) and Mick North (team official/first aid)

The Women’s Squad is: Emma Sippel, Danielle Maudsley (manager / captain), Michelle Hunter, Kate Mashford, Maxine Evans, Cassie Kelly, Cassie Firman, Corissa Raines, Kiara Wright, Chrissy McBride, Courtney Thompson, Kerrie Thompson, Lucy Montgomery, Danielle Janz, Elouise Mashford, Christie Sippel, Samantha Sewell, Sarah Vanderkolk (player/coach) and Jamie Neill (coach).

The men will be playing at Middle Ridge Park on Saturday and Sunday. The South Burnett’s first match is against Stanthorpe at 1:00pm, followed by matches against West Wanderers and Highfields. On Sunday, they kick off against Laidley at 10:00am followed by USQ and South Hawks.

Each team will play six games over the two days, culminating in the winner at the end of the competition on the most points being declared the SWQ Zone Men’s Champions for 2014.

The women will be playing at Nell E. Robinson Park on Sunday only. Their first match is against West Wanderers at 9:00am followed by games against Rockville, St Albans and Stanthorpe.

Each team will play four games with the winner at the end of the day being declared the SWQ Zone Women’s Champions.
