A total of 109 riders from 14 schools turned out for the second annual Cow Horse Day which was held at Nanango Showgrounds on Thursday.

Entries came from Bell, Coolabunia, Goomeri, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Murgon, Nanango, Taabinga, Tanduringie, Wheatlands and Wondai State Schools; Kingaroy, Murgon and Nanango State High Schools; St John’s Lutheran School, St Mary’s Catholic College and St Joseph’s Primary School, Nanango; and the School of Distance Education.

The competed in seven horse events: led stock horse, stockman’s challenge, working cow horse, barrel, ridden stockhorse, western bend and bonfield, and team penning. And for the first time, there was also a whip-cracking competition. Points were tallied across each competition.

The day was organised by St Mary’s Catholic College, Kingaroy.

Students competed in five age groups, ranging from 5-8 years to 15-18 years.

RESULTS

Age Champions:

  • 5-9 Yrs – Sophie Grundy (Taabinga SS),  Sophie Ferling (Taabinga SS), Bonnie Brunner (Coolabunia SS)
  • 10-11 Yrs – Vanessa Kissick (Taabinga SS)
  • 12-13 Yrs – Jaiden Hill (St Joseph’s Murgon)
  • 14 Yrs – Lachlan Rockemer (Goomeri SS)
  • 15-18 Yrs – Cameron Teske (St Mary’s Kingaroy)

Aggregate School Trophy:

  • Goomeri State School

Whip Cracking Competition (Novice Class):

  • 1st – Mattea Kersnovski (St John’s Kingaroy)
  • 2nd – Laura Tessmann ( St John’s Kingaroy)
  • 3rd – Stephanie Arrell (St Mary’s Kingaroy)
