Some mums probably prefer to sleep in on Mother’s Day, but others can think of nothing better than donning pink tutus as the sun comes up and then running eight kilometres …
And the National Breast Cancer Foundation will be forever grateful that they do.
The Mother’s Day Classic fun run held in Kingaroy this morning was one of a number of similar events held across Australia to encourage communities to celebrate Mother’s Day and at the same time help cancer research.
The Kingaroy event, organised by the Go Getta Girls, consisted of either a four kilometre walk or an eight kilometre run around Kingaroy streets from Memorial Park.
Go Getta Girls founder Colleen Gunn said this year’s event attracted about 200 competitors, with 107 of these registering online beforehand.
The Kingaroy event was again sponsored by Stanwell (Tarong Power Stations and Meandu Mine) and local businesses donated prizes for the entrants.
