In case anyone has forgotten … the annual Burrandowan Picnic races are on again this weekend!

For more than 90 years, crowds have been gathering at the Burrandowan Race track on the second Saturday in May.

“It’s a highlight of our year to put on the race day, and we love that people travel from as far away as Melbourne to join in the fun,” club president Brendan McCormack said.

“Our race day pumps about $15,000 into the local community in fundraising through the food and drink outlets on the day, and in 2013 we raised $6925 for the CareFlight helicopter service.

A shuttle bus will be running from Kingaroy and overnight camping is available at the track.

The day starts with clay target shooting from 9:00am.

Racing begins at 1:00pm and there’s a five-race card as well as a keenly contested Fashions of the Field competition.

After the racing, a barbecue will run into the night with a fully licensed bar (no BYO) and live music from Stunt Pig.

Police have urged racegoers to Burrandowan to have fun but to remember they will be out on the roads, so don’t drink and drive.

“Morning after” revellers will be able to check their blood alcohol concentration at the track on Sunday morning before they get into their cars to drive home.
