FLASHBACK: Artist Robyn Dower puts the finishing touches to one of the cutouts on the gallery

May 19, 2014

It seems Wondai’s beloved emu will live on …

Wondai Art Gallery curator Elaine Madill is now collecting donations at the gallery so that a permanent memorial to the much-loved town icon can be erected.

The proposal is that a cutout of the bird, designed and painted by local artist Robyn Dower, will be affixed to the side of the gallery building so it can be seen by cars on the roundabout.

Elaine said this would be better than a statue – which had been suggested by some residents – as it would be less prone to vandalism.

Robyn has prepared a number of art cut-outs which now decorate the external walls of the gallery.

Another suggestion that has been floated is for a plaque be placed at the netball courts, a favourite hangout for the bird.
