The South Burnett Saints moved into outright third on the Darling Downs AFL ladder by defeating the Chinchilla Suns at Chinchilla on Saturday.

It was a closely fought match with the scores just one point apart at half-time.

The Saints – who have now put together back-to-back wins – got off to a strong start, leading 3.1 (19) to 1.1 (7) at the end of the first quarter.

The Suns, who are holding down the No 2 spot, would pay dearly for their slow start.

At the half-time break, they led 4.4 (28) to the South Burnett’s 4.3 (27) but by the end of the third-quarter, the Saints were nearly four goals ahead.

Chinchilla rallied in the last, outpointing the South Burnett but falling short by less than a goal.

The final score was South Burnett 10.8 (68) to Chinchilla 7.9 (51).

South Burnett’s goals were kicked by Ty Snow 4, Braeden Snow, Paul Pressnell, Brad Edwards, Adam Bowater, Brad Pressnell and Brent Snow.

Next week the Saints have a home game against Dalby.

The match will kick off at Lyle Vidler Oval on Saturday at 2:30pm.
