A man charged with common assault and unlicensed driving was refused bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court this afternoon.
The court was told police will allege Justin McMahon drove to his ex-partner’s workplace, punched her in the face in front of a witness, and then drove off.
The alleged incident occurred while he was on bail on other charges, and while he was serving a suspended jail sentence.
Police opposed bail and submitted their reasons to the court.
Magistrate Mark Bucknall said, if proven, it was a particularly serious assault.
He said McMahon had an extensive criminal history and had been incarcerated before for assault.
McMahon also presented “a real risk to his ex-partner”, Mr Bucknall said.
McMahon’s next court appearance, at a date to be fixed, will be via videolink.
