Work has begun on the construction of a new overtaking lane on the D’Aguilar Highway between Yarraman and Nanango.

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said she was pleased as it had been one of her key election commitments.

The 1.2km southbound overtaking lane will be located north of Beitzel Road.

“The new overtaking lane on the D’Aguilar Highway was one of my election commitments as I know how desperately needed better road safety is for this section of the highway,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“The overtaking lane delivers better infrastructure for our region and will also reduce drive times on this key regional highway.

“There are currently limited opportunities to overtake in this area, so it’s important we provide additional safe passing opportunities for motorists.

“This project forms part of a $10 million commitment by the Newman Government to build several overtaking lanes on the D’Aguilar and Brisbane Valley highways, funded under the Royalties for the Region – Roads to Resources Program.

“The Roads to Resources initiative is designed to provide better, safer roads to support regions that host significant resource developments.

“I’ve listened to the safety concerns of local residents and motorists and have fought hard for funding, so it’s great that construction has commenced.

“To carry out these works safely and efficiently, traffic controllers, single-lane closures and speed restrictions will be in place as required. I am asking road users to be patient, drive to the changed conditions and obey all signage while these works are under way.”

Work is expected to be carried out between 6:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday.

Skeen Constructions has been awarded the project contract, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
