An woman in her 60s was airlifted from a property at Teelah, south-east of Nanango, today after falling from a horse.

An RACQ CareFlight spokesman said the woman was sitting on her horse when the animal suddenly reared up.

She was struck in the head and fell off the back of the animal. The horse then apparently landed on her.

The woman suffered suspected head, abdominal and pelvic injuries in the incident.

An RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was despatched from the Sunshine Coast base at Maroochydore about 12:30pm.

CareFlight’s critical care doctor and an intensive care paramedic treated the injured woman on scene before she was transferred to Nambour General Hospital for further medical care.

She travelled in a stable condition during the flight.
