Yarraman and Cooyar residents have just four more days to register their support and ideas for new entrance signage being commissioned by Toowoomba Regional Council.

The new entrance signage will include an overall Toowoomba Regional Council design and logo and unique image or “icon” that highlights the individual identity of each town or locality where they are installed.

Residents can either select a suggested icon or make recommendations on a Council online survey which is open to May 5.

TRC Environment and Community Committee Chairman Cr Geoff McDonald said the new signage was a major step in forging the identity of the region into the future.

“It’s not so much about signage, but about how we portray ourselves,” Cr McDonald said.

“It’s the start of a cohesive look that will link into future tourism and business development projects.

“Toowoomba is changing in many regards, but at the core of this is our people and our way of life and we are looking for signage that will demonstrate that to everyone who enters the region.”

“To do that will be a challenge and we are seeking community input to help with the process.

“We need to know how you, our residents, see your community and then the hard work will begin as we try to bring together a whole lot of ideas and come up with a design that captures the spirit of our towns.

“I see this as a great community building exercise and I urge you to take part,” he said. “To be effective the image must be simple, and be able to be understood while driving.”
