John Dundas Automotive receptionist Janny Byrnes with the model

As a special Anzac Day tribute, John Dundas Automotive in Kingaroy is currently hosting the historic Kingaroy Airport model created for the Burnett War Museum.

The large table-top model, which cost $30,000 to construct, depicts in minute detail how Kingaroy Airport looked in 1942 when it housed thousands of military personnel – right down to the tiny aircraft being serviced on the strips.

Dealer principal Mark Huston said the model, and associated photographs, would be at the dealership throughout April.

He hoped it would also help to promote the Burnett War Museum, which is located in some of the remaining wartime buildings at the airport.

Copies of “They Passed This Way”, a war history compiled by W.J. Toms for the museum in 2000, are also available for purchase as a fundraiser for the museum.

Mr Huston invited local residents to drop into the John Dundas Automotive showroom to take a closer look at the model.
