And they’re off … the start of the Tour de Kumbia in July last year

April 24, 2014

South Burnett Regional Council will again be supporting Cycling Queensland’s Tour de Kumbia and Tour de Kingaroy.

“This event was a huge success last year, bringing tourists and national media to the region. Council are proud to be a sponsor and we are already working on how to make the most of this event,” Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said.

The Tour de Kumbia and the Tour de Kingaroy is Round 3 of the 2014 Queensland Road Teams Series and will be held on June 21-22.

“On Saturday, June 21, we have planned the Tour de Kumbia and on Sunday, June 22, there will be the Tour de Kingaroy,” the Mayor said.

“Prior to the event, Cycling Queensland has organised some community rides for the residents of the South Burnett and visiting recreational cyclists. Funds raised from the community rides will be donated to the Mayor’s Community Benefit Fund.”

Council’s sponsorship of the event is funded out of the Healthy Communities Initiative Project. The funds will be utilised to promote the community rides throughout the South Burnett Region and to the members of the Cycling Queensland clubs.

“Queensland Cycling already have 112 riders signed up for the tours. These people all stay for the weekend, which is an excellent economic boost for the region,” Mayor Kratzmann said.

“SBS television will again be in the region to report on the tours. This is a real opportunity to market the region’s assets, increase tourism and encourage people to move to the area.”
