Coolaroo held on to beat the South Burnett Saints by just 3 points in Kingaroy today

The South Burnett Saints AFL team’s first home game of the season turned into a cliffhanger with visitors Coolaroo only just managing to hold on to their lead at the full-time siren.

Saints got off to a slow start, kicking just the one goal in the first quarter.

By half-time, Coolaroo were ahead 4.11-35 to 4.3-27.

By the end of the third-quarter, Coolaroo had stretched their lead to two goals: 6.18-54 to 6.6-42, and could have been further ahead but for wayward kicking.

A resurgent Saints found new life in the last quarter, kicking two goals to Coolaroo’s one and coming within three points at the siren.

The final score was Saints 8.11-59, Coolaroo 7.20-62.

Saints’ goals were kicked by Keiran Snow 3, Brad Edwards 2, Adam Bowater, Ty Snow and Joshua Miller.

Best players were Adam Branch, Ty Snow, T. Fowler, D. Rogers, Keiran Snow and Adam Bowater.

In the U14s, the Saints toppled Coolaroo 12.8-80 to 7.6-48.
