Dave Stripe and Gavin Jones discussing poster ideas for the new Maidenwell Festival

April 8, 2014

The Maidenwell Hotel could be hosting a new-style music festival on the October long weekend.

For the past 14 years, the pub has been the venue for the Maidenwell Folk Gathering in March and in recent years a second folk gathering has been added to events calendar in October.

But now organisers Dave Stripe and publican Gavin Jones are working towards changing this second weekend into something a little bit different.

“March would be just acoustic music in the hotel and around the verandahs, getting back to the way it was,” Dave told southburnett.com.au

“October would be more amped up, with a stage out back of the hotel.”

Music would be more blues or rock, with country and bluegrass tossed into the mix.

Dave said the aim would be to bring in a headline act to draw a crowd on the Saturday of the festival.

A working title for the weekend – which could still change – is “The Maidenwell Blues and Bluegrass Festival”.

He said he could envisage the weekend becoming a big drawcard for the town, a bit like the Maleny Music Weekend (or the Maleny Folk Festival before it evolved into the Woodford event).

More information about the Maidenwell Festival – which will coincide with the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show weekend – will be released closer to the event on the Maidenwell Hotel website
