The South Burnett Saints have taken home the points in their clash against the Highfields Lions this afternoon – their first match in the 2014 Darling Downs Australian Rules competition.

Highfields, who were coming off a first round win, were defeated 4.5 (29) to 9.11 (65) by the Saints, who led in every quarter.

Adam Bowater, Brad Edwards and Adam Branch each kicked two goals, while Paul Pressnell, Braeden Snow and Ty Snow kicked one.

Best players were Jeffrey Trezise, Adam Branch, Daniel Clacy, Will Reid, Ty Snow and Adam Bowater.

The Saints drew away in the second quarter, piling on 23 points while holding Highfields goal-less.

The win has lifted the Saints into the No 2 spot on the competition ladder on for and against, behind University.

The Saints have a bye next weekend.
