Kingaroy police are ramping up traffic patrols ahead of the Easter holidays, traditionally one of the most dangerous times on the roads.
Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank said today there would be increased traffic enforcement in the local area over the break as part of a statewide traffic campaign.
“We will be specifically targeting the Fatal Five, and in particular drink and drug driving, and speeding which has been a major contributor to crashes across the South Burnett,” he said.
He also urged motorists to always drive to conditions, particularly when there is wet weather about.
“Allow more distance between yourself and the vehicle in front during rainy conditions,” he said.
Snr Sgt Frank said he was very disappointed with the results of a recent visit by a police speed camera van to the South Burnett.
The vehicle was deployed in Haly Street on Thursday, monitoring four lanes of traffic – inbound and outbound – and detected 38 vehicles speeding during peak hour.
“It was made worse by the fact that the roads were so slippery in the pouring rain,” Snr Sgt Frank said.
The speed camera van was also set up on Tuesday and Wednesday in other locations around Kingaroy.
On Wednesday, it detected a P-Plate licence holder doing 91km/h in the 60 zone in Youngman Street.
