The ladies from Kumbia QCWA celebrated the 90th birthday of the branch with a high tea on the lawns behind their restrooms on Saturday afternoon.

Former members travelled from afar for the occasion and to share some special birthday cupcakes.

Blue and white – the QCWA colours – were in abundance, ranging from the signs on the water tank (“Sweeten Your Day With the Kumbia QCWA”) to the icing on the cakes.

The Kumbia QCWA branch was established in 1924  just two years after the birth of the Queensland Country Women’s Association in Toowoomba.

The restrooms in the main street of Kumbia were erected in 1953 and have been used by many different community groups over the years.

Longest serving Kumbia members are Anne Beil and Joyce Dickenson, who have both clocked up 33 years. They were presented with special certificates on Saturday to mark the occasion.

South Burnett QCWA Division secretary Mollie Kratzmann, another Kumbia member, was also presented with a special pin by Divisional President Lois Daniels to recognise her work with the group.
